Field Enumerators at International Fertilizer Development Centre (IFDC) Nigeria

IFDC's results-oriented projects cover specialties from agribusiness to engineering and technology development, from management information systems to crop nutrient management, policy reform and market development.

IFDC Nigeria facilitates agricultural projects throughout Nigeria, aiming to contribute to a sustainable increase of farmers’ income by facilitating Public Private Partnerships (PPPs). IFDC is recruiting qualified Field Enumerators for a GES Pilot project in the FCT.

Job Description

Field Enumerators will carry out a survey in FCT by interviewing farmers and accurately recording their responses. Field Enumerators will be expected to travel throughout the FCT, communicate with local leaders and farmers about the purpose of the survey, organize and manage large crowds of people, ask questions and compile reports.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Participate in a workshop to understand the objective of the project
  • Carry out data collection / survey in FCT
  • Probing for specific information from the farmers
  • Proper and respectful management of discussions
  • Ensure accurate recording of the outcome of each interview
  • Ensure each questions in the survey instrument was understood and answered to the best ability of the interviewee
  • Liaise with community heads, extension agents and other stakeholders
  • Communicate daily with the field supervisor
  • Operate a computer, smart phone handset or similar devices.
  • Notify the field supervisor where bottlenecks occur
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
Job Requirement
  • Minimum of Ordinary National Diploma (OND) in any discipline
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Word & Excel
  • Willingness to travel over rough terrain and work in remote locations
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively both in English and the local language
  • Knowledge of agricultural development is desired
  • 1-2 years work experience in enumeration, surveys, or data-entry is preferred
  • Experience operating a tablet computer or smart phone is preferred
  • Good handwriting and ability to adhere to good documentation.
  • Ability to understand the points being made, and ask appropriate questions

  • Codes invoices with accounting account numbers according to distribution in the general ledger; determines dates for invoices to be paid; keys invoices into computerized accounts payable system. Maintains alphabetical open invoice file for unpaid invoices.
  • On a weekly basis, reviews invoices scheduled for payment and a special check request with Chief Accountant, prints approved checks, prepares and routes for signature according to check signing authority.
  • Attaches duplicate copy of checks to original invoices, stamps invoices “Paid” and files in permanent records.
  • Prints, verifies and maintains accounts payable voucher reports, open/aging reports, disbursement reports, and journals.
  • Receives and answers phone calls from vendors or other departments in regard to payment status of invoices.

Background

This position is with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Country Office in Nigeria (CONIG). Working under the overall guidance of UNODC Country Representative and under the direct supervision of the Project Coordinator also in charge of Capacity Building, the incumbent will assist with operations and execution of the project’s capacity building component, in line with written guidelines and instructions developed by UNODC on project cycle management and project implementation.
Duties and Responsibilities
The incumbent will carry out the following tasks:
  • Implement the specified project activities in accordance with approved annual work plans jointly formulated with the beneficiaries.
  • Provide advice and guidance to project stakeholders with respect to training in the areas of investigation, border controls, intelligence analysis, prosecution, human rights standards and other issues such as money laundering under the auction of the Project Coordinator in charge of Capacity Building, to meet the specific needs of beneficiary institutions.
  • Identify other capacity building needs with beneficiaries, draft terms of reference and engage experts for project training workshops, meetings and study tours.
  • Coordinate and liaise regularly on project activities and implementation with relevant units of UNODC Headquarters in Vienna, relevant international training centres, international law enforcement entities such as INTERPOL and the World Customs Organization, and designated Project Focal Points and other senior professionals of beneficiary institutions.
  • Develop, maintain, and intensify contacts with international and local institutions and trainers on issues related to drug control and related crime.
  • Identify appropriate institutions, training programs, workshops, conferences, and possible sites for study tours, exchange programmes, on-the-job training, and mentoring programmes in collaboration with beneficiary institutions.
  • Prepare and deliver all necessary financial and operational revisions and reports.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Required Skills and Experience
Education:

Experience:
  • A minimum of 8 years of progressive professional experience in the field of drug control, criminal justice, law enforcement or a related field especially in a capacity building, networking, training or coordination capacities;
  • Knowledgeable in devising and administering capacity building programmes for institutions;
  • In-depth knowledge of drug control, law enforcement or organized crime as they relate to Nigeria is required;
  • Substantial experience in managing training programmes, and measuring their impact and the impact of various projects is also necessary;
  • Substantial experience in results-based management, project monitoring, reporting and evaluation is required;
  • Work experience in the United Nations System or European Union-funded projects would be an asset;
  • Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages.
Languages:
  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat;
  • For the post advertised, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required;
  • Knowledge of other UN official languages is an asset.
